Kung hindi man visible ang Canadian-raised actress na si Nancy Castiglione like she used to, she assured PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that she's doing a lot including commercials, magazine pictorials, movies, and TV shows. Ito ang pahayag niya noon sa second presscon ng Signos, the Daven Productions movie, na ipalalabas sa SM digital movie houses this August 22 with a premiere on August 20 sa SM Megamall.

"I have this movie naman which I terribly enjoyed doing," pasakalye ni Nancy. "I also finished another digital movie, Xerox, with Jao Mapa. I'm about to do several photo shoots for an international magazine, tapos sa Uno magazine, I'm currently number two sa sexiest list [si Anne Curtis ang number one].

"We're preparing for two commercials. Ang isa hinihintay ko na lang ang story board, for a beverage. The other one for a beauty product, kapipirma ko pa lang. Then there's this really big big project na magugulat na lang kayo," pambibitin niya.

Hindi maipaliwanag sa amin ni Nancy what is this all about. Hindi siya makapagbigay ng clue dahil baka give-away daw. Basta it has something to do with a showbiz project where she will be in front of the camera at may connection si Rico Blanco formerly of Rivermaya.

"Basta wait n'yo na lang, sa September na naman ito. At saka regional ito," sabi pa niya.

NANCY'S SUITORS. Meanwhile, Nancy is single right now, pero pila-pila raw ang mga suitors niya. If there is one girl who never hides her relationship at napaka-open sa mga ganitong bagay, it's Nancy.

Napabalita na isa sa mga suitors ni Nancy ay si Gutsy Tuason, 39 years old, former boyfriend of Amanda Griffin and whose family is connected to Armscor, the big company that sells guns.

The other one is Ignacio Dominguez. "He's 29 years old, his family owns both the old and the new Linden Suites, the Davao Marco Polo, the local franchiser of Naturalizers shoes and Bossini, and many more," paglalarawan ni Nancy.

"The other one, huwag muna nating pangalanan, nagpaparamdam pa lang. Basta his family is in the wholesale of diamonds in the country. May real estate din sila dito at sa Australia."

EX-BOYFRIEND. Kinumusta tuloy namin sa kanya ang kanyang best friend turned boyfriend for almost a year na si Brad Turvey.

"Oh, we're back to being friends," sagot niya. "Mas bagay kami as friends kasi. We started off as friends, we ended up as friends."

Kuwento ni Nancy, limang taon na ang friendship nila ni Brad.

"I saw him through his relationship with Pops [Fernandez], siya naman with my relationships with Paolo [Contis] and Bullet [Jalosjos]. We will be forever friends," sabi niya.

Hindi naman daw nakikialam si Brad sa mga manliligaw ni Nancy, although he gives his two-cents worth.

"He's a friend and he advises me but it shouldn't really matter at all naman," aniya pa.

Sabi namin sa kanya, for the first time yata, ngayon lang namin siya nakita na loveless for the time being and that she does not deny any relationships.

"Let's just say that I always take time out to enjoy myself," sagot naman niy

Nakapanayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang kakahiwalay lang sa boyfriend na si Nancy Castiglione sa pictorial nito ng bago niyang ini-endorse na Mares, isang Italian brand of scuba diving equipments. Nakuha si Nancy bilang endorser ng women's line ng She Dives.

Naging open si Nancy sa nangyari sa kanyang relationship with Brad Turvey. May isang buwan na palang natapos ang relasyon nila, pero kamakailan lang ito kumalat sa media.

Sinabi ni Nancy na siya ang nakipag-break kay Brad dahil pakiramdam niya ay umaayaw na ang Australian model-actor sa kanilang relasyon, pero hindi raw ito nagsasalita.

"Before Brad and I got into this relationship, we were friends for five years," sabi ni Nancy. "I knew him as a friend and we really clicked. But when we started this relationship, something changed.

"Kung ano ‘yong pinaparamdam niya sa akin noong magkaibigan pa lang kami, hindi ko ‘yon naramdaman noong naging kami. Kaya up to now, I don't know what's inside his head and what he really felt for me during our relationship."

Ang problema raw kay Brad ay hindi alam ni Nancy kung ano ang nasa isipan nito. Nagsawa na raw si Nancy sa kakahula kung ano ang nararamdaman nito para sa kanya.

"I was already tired trying to save our relationship and trying to understand him. I wish I knew what his problem was. But I don't get any response from him. Hindi ako manghuhula," sabi niya.

"Noong umalis nga ako for a month to visit my family in Canada, I was so worried all the time because the whole time that I was in Canada, he only texted me once. And that was it. I tried to contact him but he didn't answer me.

"Kaya napapraning ako," patuloy niya. "I'm scared na kapag umuwi ako, baka wala na akong boyfriend. Naguguluhan ako talaga sa kanya. And when I got home, I tried talking to him but eventually, I gave up. Babae lang ako and I can only take as much pain."

Isang reklamo pa raw ni Nancy kay Brad ay kulang daw ito sa lambing. Nasa personality kasi ni Nancy ang maging very showy sa kanyang emotions, kahit na in public. Pero si Brad daw ay tila very cold at hindi raw kumportable sa PDA or Public Display of Affection.

"I can't blame Brad for being that way. I guess he grew up with that kind of personality. Pero as his girlfriend, sana naman he would have given it some effort.

"Kasi if we want a relationship to work, we should learn how to accept each other's personalities. That really disappointed me. Now I'm starting to ask myself kung minahal niya ba talaga ako?" ani Nancy.

Marami pang kuwento si Nancy tungkol sa ilang problemang sinapit ng relasyon nila ni Brad at kung sino ang dine-date nito a few days lang after nilang naghiwalay.

Naging open din si Nancy sa bago niyang inspirasyon, ang underwater photographer na si Gutsy Tuason. Sinagot din ni Nancy ang tsismis na nabuntis daw siya kaya umuwi siya sa Canada para gawan ito ng paraan.

Since you aren’t scared to try anything, what’s the ballsiest thing you’ve done lately?
I would have to say the shoot for TechnoMarine. I had to do shots underwater. We were shooting in this pool-aquarium thing. The photographer was inside where he could see me underwater through a glass wall. And in order for me to sink so that he could take the shots, I had to let go of all the air in my lungs, hold my breath, not touch my face as per Barbi (Chan, makeup artist) here—and look sexy. As if that wasn’t enough, my boob popped out! So there: The ballsiest thing I’ve ever done was try to look good while drowning, ha ha!

You’ve had to give up some work to get your share of free time. But isn’t it hard saying no to projects while they’re on a roll?
Oh yeah, it’s hard! But I’ve been working straight for three and a half years. I’ve worked on three shows simultaneously all that time. So I desperately need a break or else I’m going to burn out.

What is one thing you’re able to do now that you couldn’t before?
I started doing magazine work again, which I really, really love. I went too fast kasi from commercials and magazines to TV work. I enjoy doing fashion editorials, and shoots like this. And simply going out on a gimmick with friends! My perfect day would be going out with friends to the beach and coming back after dinner and having a few drinks at someone’s house or playing poker.

How do you feel about this shoot as opposed to when you first posed in FHM?
The first time I posed for FHM was back in the day when I was “rebelling.” Ha ha! But I was wearing a tube top and a skirt, so super pa-cute pa rin. My gosh I feel more prepared now. Then I was so young and I didn’t really know what I was doing, but now I feel that I’ve grown up a lot. So for this shoot, my goal is to emote sexiness and get away with it without having to be naked.

Ever made the first move?
One time I asked, “Can I kiss you?” He said yes. Hindi pa kami nun, pero siyempre naging kami!
Have all your boyfriends been Filipinos?
Yeah.

Have you tried their foreign brethren?
No, not since I’ve been here in the Philippines. In Canada, yes.

So clue us in on how a guy can, as you said, sweep you off your feet!
I don’t even know how so that’s tough, but they’ve got to break the barriers around my heart. I like guys who have a soft heart but who are still a man’s man. He has to be dashing in the way that he treats women. Small gestures, like opening doors, are what scream how a man cares for a girl. Words don’t mean that much to me anymore, talk is cheap.

How about physically?
That’s really not something I look for. I’ve dated a lot of good-looking guys, but it’s really personality. I know that sounds like a cliché. And another thing is that he absolutely has to make me laugh.

Is there anything you’re passionate about aside from work?
Yeah, to have a husband and a family, which is ironic, jaded as I am. But I’d make a really good wife and mother! I love children, I’m very Pinay in the way that I believe in taking care of my man—cooking for him, making sure he’s up on time, making sure he’s fed properly. I’m a really good cook! And I cook with my tongue, not, like, with measurements in recipes. But I only cook for friends and that special someone.

So what do you think of when you hear the word “69”?
Bastos, ha ha! That number’s just got that stigma behind it.

Would you ever try it?
Secret! Is it any good? Have you? Ha ha!

It’s been three years and nine months since we saw you last. So why did your comeback take that long?
I was declining your invitation to do a pictorial then because of my respect for my partner at that time. I also thought na masyado namang maraming babes kayo na pwedeng imbitahin para magpa-sexy at feeling ko di ko kayang tapatan iyong ginagawa nila. I even made a conscious effort not to do sexy movies. I was trying to make a point. Gusto kong makita ng mga tao na hindi lang pagpapa-sexy ang kaya ko. So I tried dancing, singing, and luckily I landed regular gigs sa Kool Ka Lang, Bubble Gang, and right now sa Lagot Ka. I’m very happy. At least now, I’m called a sexy comedienne who can sing and dance. Hindi na ako nata-typecast na isa sa mga bagay na iniiwasan ko. Let’s face it: Ang shelf life naman ng mga sexy stars ang iksi. Mabango ngayon tapos mawawala bukas.

But how does being one of our readers’ most requested ladies make you feel?
For that I’m truly grateful. That’s why I thought of doing a new pictorial na rin. Kasi naman iyong mga pictures ko na ginagamit n’yo masyado nang luma. Naisip ko, nakahubad lang din naman ako noon so ibahin na lang natin iyong angles and concept so we can come up with a fresher pictorial now.

You were nearly blinded by an accident. How has surviving that helped in your growth as a person?
I’m 20-plus years old but in terms of experience I’m 50 years old. Humbling experience para sa akin iyong nangyari. Noong muntik na akong mabulag, dun ko nakita kung sino iyong totoo kong kaibigan. Natuto lalo akong makisalamuha sa tao and take things in stride. Kasi naman dito sa showbiz, pag pinansin mo lahat ng sinasabi sa ’yo ng tao, medyo mawiwindang ka talaga. I just make sure now na hindi makaka-offend ng kapwa ang mga ginagawa ko. Natuto rin akong mag-ipon kasi alam kong di naman talaga lasting ang career ng bawat isa rito.

Has your definition of what makes you sexy also changed?
Pareho pa rin. I’ve always said that being sexy is not about how shapely your body is and how beautiful you are. Your sexiness comes out if you know and feel that you are sexy. It’s everything that comes out from within you that makes you sexy.

You’re around the country’s best comedians most of the time. Do you think they’re the best lovers in the world?
Yes I do. Ang hirap kasi makasama ang isang taong sobrang seryoso sa buhay. Life itself is serious enough. Ngayon kung magpapaapekto tayo sa buhay, di ba parang mas mahirap iyon? Mas masarap kasama iyong lalaking mahal mo na, napapatawa ka pa. Mas nagiging bata iyong pakiramdam mo pag ganoon ang partner mo sa buhay. Komedyante ako pagdating sa relasyon kasi I’m like that in person—makulit talaga ako at masayahing tao.

Do you use your charm to get away with anything?
I don’t use my charm to change people and influence how they behave. If I’m committed to someone who’s formal, I have to accept that he’s like that. But that doesn’t mean I have to be as formal as him. I can always inject humor into our relationship para later on kasanayan niya kung ano talaga ang personality ko.

Aside from having a sense of humor, what kind of man commands your respect?
I’ve always wanted a man who’s responsible. Sana financially stable para di naman kami mahirapan. Right now, I’m earning more than enough for myself at para sa magiging anak ko in the future. Pero siyempre lalaki pa rin dapat iyong nagdadala sa relasyon so sana he’s also financially capable of earning not just for himself but for his family as well. These are the qualities in men that I’m serious about. The latter is important kasi mahirap yata tumawa nang gutom.

What kind of men’s bedroom antics do you find hilarious?
Wala akong maisip. May body odor? Naku, teka, hindi na yata nakakatawa iyon. Hindi naman dapat na maging komedyante siya sa kama. Dapat active lang. (laughs)

Does that mean knowing different styles?
Sa amin na lang iyon. Kasi pag sinabi ko, baka mag-practice na sila sa lahat. Mahihirapan naman yata akong pumili nun! (laughs)

Do you think men make good pets?
Yes I do. It’s just a matter of how you train them.

You mean tricks?
No, I mean serious stuff like handling relationships.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done while on vacation?
Ang eksena ko sa beach? I just enjoy it with friends. Kulitan lang, kuwentuhan nang medyo green. Pero hanggang dun lang. Wala kaming ina-actualize. Alam kasi namin ang aming limitasyon. Biruan lang at kaunting drinking.

So you’ve never kissed a hunky lifeguard on a dare?
Hay naku, hindi mo ako mapapagawa nun kahit sabihin na natin na nakainom ako. Malakas ang loob ko, sure, but I know what I’m doing lalo na pag umiinom ako.

Ever licked ice cream other than from a cone?
Parang ayoko yatang sagutin ang tanong! (laughs) I do a lot of things. I love to experiment to spice things up. Ice cream as props? Ayoko…hindi ko na lang sasabihin. (laughs)

How the hunk from Down Under and the Canadian-born sweetheart found love in Manila

He is from Gold Coast, Australia, and she is from Winnipeg, Canada, but as fate has it, Brad Turvey and Nancy Castiglione found love in the romantic city of Manila eight months ago.

Theirs were not a love-at-first-sight type of thing. What started out as a cool and friendly relationship four years ago blossomed naturally into an enviable romance in June 2006. And since then, the handsome couple have found comfort and caring companionship in each other away from their homelands.

Brad and Nancy, both celebrities on the entertainment and commercial scenes, believe in making the most out of their young lives and both agree that doing things together will strengthen their equally young and budding romance.

Sharing hobbies and learning new things are a few of their secrets in getting to know one another better and thus making their relationship’s so-called honeymoon stage more exciting, and hopefully, a lasting one.

Since Brad is a certified diver and instructor, he encouraged Nancy to get back into the sport and shortly after, she earned her own diving certificate. Nancy is fond of traveling. Without having to lovingly persuade him like most women do to get what they want, she and Brad now explore the beauty of the Philippine Islands like tourists visiting a foreign destination. Lucky for them, their individual leisure activities complement each other therefore making it easier for the energetic twosome to enjoy both.

Another meaningful activity they took on recently was the task given by QTV 11’s At Your Service, Star Power wherein Brad and Nancy organized a Junior-Senior prom for a national high school in Boracay, whose students never felt the prom fever because nobody in their town had sufficient means to plan one. The couple also hosted an exciting dating game and a speed dating activity for the youth to socialize and mingle. A sense of fulfillment and a chance to give back to even just a few young Filipino viewers something to cherish are the realizations they both gained from this undertaking. Although others may have considered a tedious job was a fun-filled and rewarding experience for both.

On this Valentine week, Brad and Nancy impart their views on relationships, celebrity romance and the sweet (and sometimes sour) moments that inevitably come with this little thing called love.

On being friends before lovers

Brad: This is actually the first time a relationship happened in this way for me. I guess there are more advantages than disadvantages to being close friends before being lovers. For example you have better foundation on which to build the relationship on. You know and understand each other better since you know the “real” person as a friend without the act of putting your best foot forward as most do during the “courting” stage. Added to this is my belief that the best of lovers should also be the best of friends. This means being able to trust each other and be comfortable talking to each other about anything.

Nancy: I’ve always been formally courted, and got to know the guy with his best foot forward. Although being courted has its advantages, I now feel the disadvantages are far greater.

Brad and I had a unique friendship in that he usually only got to see and experience the emotional side of me when I would call him to hang out to vent about my relationships. We never went out on fun gimmicks, only coffee or dinner, which were basically therapy sessions for me. During those talks he was able to witness the brat in me, and learn about my wants and dislikes in relationships. I was able to see that he was a good listener, patient and had good morals and values by the advice he would give me. The friendship we had made a great foundation for a serious romantic relationship and hopefully, one with a bright future. Flowers, candies and romantic dates don’t mean much when you’re with a person you hardly know.

On marriage

Brad: Knowing when to tie the knot is never an exact science. It’s a combination of the right emotions, the right chemistry, good communication, a solid foundation and a willingness to commit 110 percent of your life to your partner and just pray she feels the same way.

Nancy: I believe in the saying “you just know.”

Finding a partner in a foreign land

Brad: I never thought it would happen to me. I grew up in Australia and thought I would spend the rest of my life there and end up marrying a Caucasian girl. I must admit that perhaps because of growing up in a Caucasian country and being exposed to the women there, I never found Asian girls appealing until the day I moved to the Philippines. All of a sudden my “love life” was turned upside down. I saw qualities in Filipinas that I loved. Loyalty, caring nature and healthy morals among others. Finding love in a foreign country also helps build a special bond since we’re both out of the comfort and security of our home countries.

Nancy: Finding love in a different country is a big plus. You have the opportunity to discover more about each other and the country together.

Different cultures and family backgrounds

Brad: Adjusting to each other’s culture and ways is something that took a bit of getting used to since Nancy is a mix of Italian and Filipino but grew up in Canada and I’m Chinese, Australian and Scottish and grew up in Australia. We have different priorities and some different values but we’ve learned to accept the differences and even enjoy the fireworks that our differences can create.

Nancy: Adjusting to Brad’s way of thinking wasn’t easy. He’s logical and straightforward while I’m emotional and sensitive. Therefore we tend to handle the same situations very differently. Fortunately, we had no problems adjusting to each other’s culture and traditions.

Family and friends

Brad: The role of family and friends in a relationship is very important in giving emotional support and often they provide a different perspective when it comes to sensitive situations. I would never be able to get through life without the support of my family and friends.

Nancy: It is very important to me that my family and friends like my boyfriend, and that my boyfriend’s family and friends like me. They are the people who have your best interests at heart and sometimes they really do know what’s best for you.

Celebrity couples in the public eye

Brad: Being a couple in the public eye is not and has never been a major deal for me. I’m never one to put on an act to please others nor do I let it affect my actions or decisions. I guess they just have to respect me for just being me.

Nancy: Celebrity couples have it very hard. That’s why Brad and I have tried to keep as much as possible to ourselves. We gave one TV interview as we feel it is our responsibility to let our fans know that it is true, but that’s it.

As modern role models for the youth

Brad: I stick to my ideal that I do things the same way whether people are watching or not.

Nancy: It’s important to both Brad and me to be a positive role model individually and as a couple as well.

Social responsibility

Brad: After taping At Your Service I realized that with so many people deprived of many of life’s simple pleasures, there must be so many people who take those simple pleasures for granted. I have realized that although there are many people who are much better off in life than I am, we should never forget those who are in worse situations. It only takes a little effort from some to make a world of difference to others.

Nancy: Participating in the At Your Service activity was something I will remember forever. It was great to be able to give something back and make people happy. It made me realize that I would like to be more involved in charities and other public service organizations.

Barely a year into the relationship, they are learning, discovering and most of all enjoying the romantic partnership they have. There will be more challenges and adventures to come their way but with their vigor, dedication and love, Brad and Nancy hope to go a long way together.
